Kidsville News! is a monthly educational resource in a newspaper format. KVN is designed specifically for children ages kindergarten through fifth grade; its mission being to improve literacy in the community by teaching kids that reading is fun, and encouraging reading as a lifelong habit.
The publication itself has a variety of contents useful to children, parents and teachers. Each month there's a kid-friendly article pertaining to geography, history, science, art and Spanish (to name a few)- which teachers can use in the classroom.
There is also a variety of puzzles and games each month, making it a fun activity book for children. A section called ParenTown has book suggestions, financial literacy lessons and other editorial material for parents. Parents can also find school information, calendars with relevant community information and activities they can engage in with their children after school.
What makes our program especially unique is that KVN is not just a newspaper; we also have a fun interactive website and a mascot-Truman the Dragon. Truman, a 6-foot green dragon, serves as our mascot and makes appearances throughout the community- at schools, community events and sponsors' businesses.
The website provides teachers access to worksheets they can use in the classroom that correspond to each month's articles. It also has a variety of online games and activities for children, access to previous articles, and links to the publication's sponsors.
We're proud to become a part of your great educational team and look forward to a wonderful school year! |
